Volunteering with the Samaritans

INVITATION TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT VOLUNTEERING WITH SAMARITANS.

INFORMATION EVENTS BEING HELD 7PM TUESDAY NOVEMBER 22nd and 29th at Samaritans, Northallerton and The Dales Branch, 7 Crosby Road, (Just behind the Old Prison) Northallerton. DL6 1AA. Access is via the back door in Crosby Road Car Park.

Could you touch another persons life when it really matters? Either by discussing their feelings with them directly by phone, email, text, letter or even face to face? Or perhaps you could support our branch by helping with the Administration, Publicity, Fund Raising or Cleaning etc.

Our Confidential, 24hr listening service responds to 5 million contacts a year. We also reach out to our local community by visiting schools, colleges, universities, prisons and workplaces.  With so much happening we’re constantly looking for new people to strengthen our teams.

We usually ask volunteers to give 3 to 4 hours a week, including some overnight time. Out of pocket expenses will be paid to volunteers.

Please do come along to one of our Information events lasting 60 to 90 minutes.

Or request an Information pack and look forward to what many of our volunteers describe as one of the most rewarding things they have ever done contact:-

Tour de Yorkshire 2016 – Tour Makers

Welcome to Yorkshire is working with regional police forces to look for a passionate and reliable team of volunteers.

Being a Tour Maker offers a fantastic opportunity to be part of the race and be the welcoming face of Yorkshire for spectators.

Anyone interested in becoming a Tour Maker for the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire can complete a short online surveyOpens new window. Volunteers will need to attend a police-led training session and be available on race weekend (Friday 29 April, Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May).

The 2016 Tour de Yorkshire marks the third return for Tour Makers, following the Tour de France in 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire in 2015.

Changes to Do-it.Org

To All Organisations

A new Do-it Website is launching at the end of September 2014 as ivo took over the management of the site in December 2013. Instead of the Volunteer Centre uploading your opportunities to Do-it, all opportunities and applications will be handled through the new cloud-based system.

What do you need to do?

* Any existing opportunities that are registered on our system will be transferred to the new site. Contact us if you are not sure which opportunities we advertise for you at present or if you want to ensure all your details are up to date.

* It will be possible, with the new site, to manage the information for your organisation yourself. Let us know if you would prefer to do this so that we can set it up for you after the new system goes live. This opportunity will be available to you in the future and so no decision is necessary now.

* Start taking photos! The new site will make a lot more use of imagery to bring opportunities alive and encourage applications.

You can access more useful information from a Frequently Asked Questions site.

Fundraising Update

Bag-Packing

Volunteers from Community Care spent from 10am to 3pm on the 4th December at the big coop bag-packing.

The people in Stokesley were very generous and we raised a grand total of £221.

Thanks to both the shoppers and to our volunteers.

If you can help with further bag packs or are maybe interested in helping other possible fundraising initiatives, then please get in touch with Clare, Tel 01845 523115 or e-mail clare@tscca.org.uk, or contact our office direct.

Coffee Morning

On Friday 20th December, the CCA hired the Town Hall (main downstairs room) from 9am until 3pm.  As well as our usual refreshments, we had a Tombola and a cake stall.

This event was very successful and raised a significant total.

Thank you to all volunteers who contributed, and to all who supported us by buying tickets and refreshments.

Craft Club Stall

Volunteers from the Community Care Craft Club held a stall in the Parish Church at their monthly tea/coffee and cakes morning (first Saturday in month).

We were really pleased to be able to hold our stall in the church and made over £150! A fantastic amount, which will go into the CCA funds to keep the craft club running and help all the CCA services.

The Community Care Craft Club was set up 2 years ago to help combat loneliness, we invite people to come along and enjoy craft sessions – volunteers are on hand to help. For more information give us a ring 01642 710085.

CSV Make a Difference Campaign

We did make a difference to the poorest children across the world this year by taking part in the annual CSV Make A Difference Day Campaign.

We called on all our volunteers, the Community Care Craft Club and Stokesley Day Centre clients to get knitting!!

Between us all we knitted 60 teddy hand puppets and 6 purses to be included in Christmas Shoeboxes which are sent across the world to the neediest children at Christmas time.
WELL DONE EVERYONE THAT TOOK PART & THANKYOU!
